Venue Change – Midlands Hurricanes

January 6, 2023

Cornwall will face Midlands at the Alexander Stadium – Patrick Tod

Cornwall RLFC’s opening game of the 2023 Betfred League 1 against Midlands Hurricanes will now take place at a different venue to originally planned.

After agreeing a tenancy agreement with Birmingham City Council, Midlands, who rebranded from Coventry Bears in 2021, will now play matches in the Second City at Alexander Stadium.

However, Hurricanes will play matches in 2023 on a warm-up pitch next to the main stadium which hosted the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Last year, Midlands played at Portway, the home of rugby union side Birmingham and Solihull Bees.

The Choughs were the final opponents for Richard Squires’ side at Portway with the hosts prevailing 42-26.

And now Mike Abbott’s troops will be the first side to face off against the Hurricanes at their new home on Sunday, February 19.
