Squad Named For Crusaders Clash

March 22, 2024

Cornwall RLFC head coach Mike Abbott has named his 21-man squad for Sunday’s Betfred League 1 home clash against North Wales Crusaders.

Earlier today, the club confirmed that this match will be played at Truro College on an artificial surface, opposed to the Memorial Ground, Penryn.

This game has now been designated as all-ticket owing to a reduced capacity at this temporary venue.

For North Wales, who were defeated in the play-off final last term, this is their first league action of 2024, after they were without a game in round one.

Cornwall, meanwhile, §faced relegated Keighley Cougars away from home with the Yorkshire outfit prevailing 56-12. However, the scoreline flattered the hosts somewhat with the Choughs performing admirably throughout.

Cornwall will be without Adam Rusling who is ruled out because of the leg gash he picked up in the Keighley reverse. The former Hull Kingston Rovers playmaker required 15 stitches and surgery after an accidental clash saw him injured during the first half.

Morgan Punchard, who was ruled out on the morning of the game against Keighley due to illness, has fully recovered and is back in contention once more.

In the fixtures between Cornwall and the Crusaders last year, Carl Forster’s troops triumphed at the Mem while the return fixture, played at Rhyl RUFC, saw the Choughs edge a thriller 40-38.
