Nichol Joins Swinton Lions on Loan
August 8, 2024
Cornwall RLFC can confirm that utility back Coby Nichol has joined Betfred Championship side Swinton Lions on loan, until the end of the 2024 campaign.
The 21-year-old first linked up with the Choughs during the club’s maiden season, making three appearances on dual registration from Bradford Bulls.
Nichol, who came through the academy set up at Super League giants Leeds Rhinos and hails from Halifax, another rugby league hotbed, left Odsal during the 2022 off season.
He joined Cornwall for 2023 and made his second bow in Choughs colours off the interchange bench in an away defeat to Midlands Hurricanes.
Making 17 appearances overall last term as Cornwall picked up five league wins in a progressive season for Mike Abbott’s side, Nichol also crossed the whitewash three times – in consecutive games against Dewsbury, Midlands and Workington.
He extended his stay in the Duchy for another 12 months and was an ever-present for Cornwall until sitting out last Sunday’s defeat against Rochdale Hornets.
“We have always said that we would never stand in the way of any player wanting to have a crack at a higher level,” Abbott told cornwallrlfc.co.uk.
“Coby has been given an opportunity to do just that at Swinton and we wish him every success in the last few weeks of the season, as they try to stay in the league above.”
