Neil Kelly Post London Skolars

Defiant head coach Neil Kelly says he wants Cornwall RLFC ‘ to finish the season strongly’.

The Memorial Ground chief was speaking after his side fell to a 46-6 loss to London Skolars in their most recent Betfred League 1 clash.

After a bright showing, the Choughs were 6-0 to the good as half time approached. But led by their magnificent full-back Jarred Bassett, London scored two converted tries before the siren.

After the turnaround, the Skolars then took complete control as they racked up 34 unanswered points, with Bassett recording a superb four-timer.

“I am disappointed with the final result because for 25 minutes we were totally dominant. We weren’t dominant on the scoreboard but we were 6-0 up.

“Just at the point where we started to make changes, we didn’t maintain that momentum and the build up to London’s first try came over a five minute period.

“We started to play second best in the middle and we had further problems out wide. For the first time this year I think fitness played a big part in the game on a hot and humid day.

“We have four games left and I want us to finish the season strongly. I don’t want to finish the season with a whimper. After the evidence of this performance against London Skolars though, they look like they could be hollow words.

“However, I hope that the players pick themselves up, pull in the right direction and all galvanise everyone behind one shield. That’s not going to be easy but that’s where we are and that’s what we have got to do.”
