Matchday Guide – Oldham Roughyeds
August 20, 2022
Cornwall RLFC bring the curtain down on their home campaign in 2022 when Oldham Roughyeds visit the Memorial Ground tomorrow – Sunday, August 21, 3.00pm.
Neil Kelly’s side are without a game over the bank holiday weekend before they travel to Portway to face Midlands Hurricanes in Betfred League 1’s final round on September 5.
The two sides met back in April when Oldham eased to a 48-22 win after a strong first half showing. However, there were real signs of encouragement in the second stanza with Cornwall finishing the game in strong fashion.
Harry Aaronson led the Choughs’ charge with a brace of tries while Liam Whitton and Anthony Mullally also crossed the whitewash at the Vestacare Stadium.
Last time out, Cornwall travelled to Oldham’s near neighbours Rochdale and went down 34-14 in a match that the visitors deserved much more from. Cornall led 14-10 at one stage during the opening stanza, which was a keenly contested affair, but somehow eight cards were brandished.
Thankfully for Cornwall, no further punishments were handed out when the Match Review Panel met earlier this week but for Rochdale, Fenton Rogers was handed a three game ban for a head butt on Jack Ray.
For Oldham, they kept their slim play-off hopes alive with a home demolition of London Skolars. Oldham scored 10 tries to triumph 60-6 and they know victory in the Duchy will keep their play-off interest going for another week.
Cornwall on the other hand will break their duck as a professional entity on home soil if they pick up two competition points.
