Louis Collinson Extends Loan For the Rest of Season
May 13, 2022
Cornwall RLFC have signed forward Louis Collinson on a season-long loan from Championship outfit Batley Bulldogs.
The 20-year-old initially joined the Choughs on a short-term loan from Mount Pleasant and played in recent matches against Rochdale Hornets and Hunslet.
In the away reverse against the Parksiders, Collinson, a graduate through the scholarship and academy set-up ajt Super League side Castleford Tigers, was voted supporters’ man of the match for a stellar showing.
After this impressive display, Cornwall head coach Neil Kelly moved quickly to extend Collinson’s loan until the 2022 Betfred League 1 campaign ends.
“Picking up the supporters’ man of the match award at Hunslet just endorses what I think about Louis,” Kelly told cornwallrlfc.co.uk. “He has come into the side and has made that middle loose forward position his own.
“That’s not just for his running which he does at pace and he is a difficult player to stop. He’s also been impressive in defence and we are really grateful to secure him for the remainder of the season.
“Louis has laid down the gauntlet to the other players in the middle to reach the standards he has set in the last two games. He is hungry to prove himself and he’s burst onto our scene.
“Louis has impressed and he’s a nice kid. He’s been very unassuming but honest, meaning it was not a difficult decision to secure him for a longer period on loan.”
Collinson, who cut his formative rugby teeth at Leeds amateur side Oulton Raiders, admitted that making his professional bow was tough but an experience he enjoyed.
“It was a great experience to make my League 1 debut with Cornwall” he revealed. “The club are going to hopefully make lots of history this season and I think I performed well in the game at Rochdale and at Hunslet.
“I was under no illusions how tough the matches were going to be and despite the big challenge, I think I stepped up to it well.”
