Loganair Squad Announcement For Midlands Clash
August 16, 2024
Cornwall RLFC head coach Mike Abbott has named his 21-man squad for Sunday’s final home game of the season, at home to Midlands Hurricanes.
This squad announcement is brought to you by Loganair, the club’s official airline partner.
The Choughs are buoyed by the return of utility back Coby Nichol, after his loan to Betfred Championship outfit was cut short earlier this week.
Prop Matt Ross is missing as he serves the first of two match suspension, picked up after the defeat away to Rochdale Hornets, earlier this month.
But the loss of Ross is tempered by the return of fellow Welshman Harry Boots, who hasn’t featured since the home reverse at the hands of Workington Town, owing to a back injury.
It is a similar tale of one in, one out, in the back row too. Nathan Cullen is ruled out through injury, replaced by a fit again Darcy Simpson, who sat out the 33-26 home loss at the hands of Hunslet in round 20.
Luke Collins, despite picking up a one-match suspension via the Rugby Football League’s Match Review Panel after the Choughs’ loss to Hunslet, is free to play.
Despite both players picking up knocks against the Parksiders, Bradford loan duo Jacob Bateman and Jamie Gill are named in the squad.
“It is the final home game of the season and we are determined to put on a real show for the fans,” Abbott told cornwallrlfc.co.uk
“It has been a mixed bag for us against Midlands this season. We produced a brilliant performance to win up at their place, on a really hot day.
“But the home game against them in April was a real low point not only for this season, but in my time with the club.
“We put a few demons to bed in Birmingham and I know Mark (Dunning, Midlands head coach) will be hoping his players do the same on Sunday.
“Both sides will come into the game in confident mood with Midlands beating Workington last home out.
“In some respects, our loss over Hunslet felt worse than a defeat because we should have won and they knew that too. However, the mood in training this week has been really positive and crucially, the lads know what is needed to beat Midlands.”
