Loganair Squad Announcement For Hunslet Clash
May 24, 2024
Cornwall RLFC head coach Mike Abbott has named his 21-man squad for Sunday’s Betfred League 1 round 10 clash away to Hunslet.
The squad announcement is brought to you by Loganair, the club’s official airline partner.
The Choughs head to Yorkshire searching for a second consecutive away triumph, after victory over Midlands Hurricanes in round 16.
Last time out, Cornwall were defeated at the Memorial Ground by table toppers Oldham while in Hunslet’s most recent league clash, they stunned the Roughyeds’ nearest challengers Keighley at Cougar Park.
Cornwall name 19-year-old Irish forward Sam Campbell in their pre-match squad, after a dual-registration partnership with Halifax Panthers was announced yesterday (Thursday).
AJ Boardman keeps his place after his loan move from Rochdale Hornets was extended for another two weeks.
Matt Ross is pushing for a return after shaking off a leg problem while Maltese international Kaine Dimech is included, as he returns to full fitness, after suffering an ankle knock against Rochdale earlier this month.
Harry Aaronson and Cameron Brown sat out the Oldham defeat with illness but both are now 100 per cent fit and very much in contention.
Tom Ashton is once again unavailable, with Kyle Marvin (knee) and Courage Mkuhlani (shoulder) ruled out through injury.
Morgan Punchard serves the second of his two-game suspension and will not face his former club.
“Hunslet’s results this season demonstrate the unpredictability of this league,” Abbott told cornwallrlfc.co.uk. “They got beaten heavily by Oldham then defeated Keighley which is similar to us in some respects – losing to Midlands and then turning them over three weeks later.
“We can take bucket loads of positives from what we have done since we lost to Midlands game. I know last Sunday was a defeat against Oldham, but apart from a 15-minute spell in the second half, we gave a really good account of ourselves.
“Some of the lads that missed out against Oldham will be back in the frame for selection and we are excited to see how Sam Campbell runs after he joined us from Halifax.”
