Cornwall Sign Welshman Charley Bodman
June 23, 2022
Cornwall RLFC have signed Welsh back-row forward Charley Bodman until the end of the 2022 Betfred League 1 season.
The 20-year-old had begun the campaign with Cornwall’s third tier rivals Hunslet but he was released by the Parksiders earlier this week.
Although Bodman’s move to the Duchy being announced by his former employers yesterday (Wednesday), the transfer did not receive official Rugby Football League clearance until today (Thursday).
With the cut-off for inclusion in Cornwall’s 21-man squad met, Bodham is in line to make his bow for Neil Kelly against West Wales Raiders, the club where the Newport born man cut his formative professional rugby league teeth.
“For me it is perfect to be facing a former club of mine first up if I’m selected,” Bodman told cornwallrlfc.co.uk.
“And then, with Cornwall playing Hunslet the week after, I will hopefully be doing it all over again. I feel like I have a point to prove to both clubs and to myself as well.
“I want to impress Cornwall and John Kear, the head coach of Wales. I know I need to be playing if I am to have any chance of making the Wales World Cup squad.
“Having game time will tell me if I’m good enough to play at international level. I have been asking myself that question over the past few weeks after I wasn’t involved with Wales for their game in France.
“I can’t wait to get stuck in with Cornwall and give myself the best possible chance of answering all those questions. I am going to work hard, bring a huge amount of dedication and course my mullet to the club.”
