Cornwall RLFC Sign Myles Tate

Cornwall RLFC’s latest signing Myles Tate

Cornwall RLFC have completed the signing of Myles Tate on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

Tate was released by the Choughs’ Betfred League 1 rivals Keighley Cougars earlier this week with the powerhouse prop inking terms to stay in the Duchy until the end of 2024.

Born in Kippax, Tate is a product of local Leeds-based junior club Oulton Raiders. Aged just 14, he joined the scholarship pathway at Super League outfit Castleford Tigers.

Tate continued his rugby league development by playing for both Oulton and Castleford and became a regular in the Tigers’ academy side in 2019.

A string of impressive showings alerted the attention of Castelford’s top flight rivals Warrington Wolves and Tate moved to the Haliwell Jones Stadium for 2020.

With the covid-19 pandemic cutting short Tate’s first season with Warrington, the academy championship returned for 2021 and he featured regularly for a side coached by former Great Britain forward Paul Anderson.

However, at the conclusion of the 2021 campaign, Tate was not offered a professional deal by the Wolves and subsequently joined Keighley.

Injury would hamper his first taste of professional football and in a bid to gain match time and fitness, dual registered with Oulton who ply their trade in the National Conference League.

After the Challenge Cup break week, Tate joined West Wales Raiders on loan and featured for the Llanelli based outfit in their 24-4 loss to Cornwall on June 15. This temporary sabbatical to Wales ended last month, paving the way for a move to the Memorial Ground.

“It is a completely different opportunity and one I am very much looking forward to,” Tate told cornwallrlfc.co.uk.

“This kind of opportunity doesn’t come around very often and the challenge of moving down to Cornwall excites me. I have seen some of the lads say what a great place Cornwall is and how the lifestyle is so different to what rugby players are used to in the north.

“I know that it will be a challenge to adapt but I know that I will get help from the lads at Cornwall, the coaching staff and the people that run the club too.

“By signing until the end of 2024, the club are also giving me an opportunity to further my education away from rugby whilst in Cornwall.

“I’ll be moving down in the next couple of weeks and I want to dig in for this season and the next two years after that.

“The biggest aspect to my game is making big yards forward with the ball in my hand and I just can’t wait to hopefully make a name for myself down here.”
