Cornwall RLFC are delighted to announce the signing of Malikhi Lloyd-Jones for the 2024 Betfred League 1 season.

The 29-year-old, who is eligible to play for Jamaica at international level and his been involved with two of the Reggae Warriors’ train-on squads, was with Cornwall’s former divisional rivals London Skolars in 2023.

Lloyd-Jones featured in both games against Cornwall and caught the eye as the Choughs completed an historic first league double, with home and away victories over the capital side.

A prop forward by trade, Lloyd-Jones has also represented Hemel Stags, Gloucestershire All Golds and Coventry Bears (now Midlands Hurricanes) in the third tier previously.

“Cornwall are a well-drilled and well-coached side,” Lloyd-Jones told cornwallrlfc.co.uk. “Every player sings off the same hymn sheet which bodes well for a good environment to play rugby in.

“From the outside, Cornwall’s set up is impressive and I love the way the fans helped the players feed off their enthusiasm. Like the players, the fans celebrated all the little wins like a big tackle or forcing an error and that was further evidence of how together everything is.

“I can’t wait for the fans to see my aggressive running style and with over 100 games at League 1 level under my belt, I feel like I can make a difference to Cornwall, by adding some grunt up front.”

Meanwhile, Cornwall RLFC head coach Mike Abbott, added: “When we looked back at our games against London Skolars last season, Malikhi was a player who stood out – even in a losing cause.

“He will give us that go forward that wasn’t always there last season due to the issues we had with middles. We saw as the season went on that if your middles are settled and capable performers at this level, it will give your backs a platform to play.

“Someone like Malikhi will boost our options up front as we look to take further steps forward in 2024.”
