Cornwall RLFC are delighted to announce the signing of Liam O’Callaghan for the 2024 Betfred League 1 season.

The 29-year-old joins the Choughs from former divisional rivals London Skolars, who he represented in both of the past two seasons.

O’Callaghan, an Ireland ‘A’ international, came through the academy system at Super League outfit London Broncos, before going on to represent hometown team Hemel Hempstead and Oxford in League 1.

Comfortable playing at either loose forward on in the hooking berth, O’Callaghan will add further versatility to an already exciting looking Cornwall roster for 2024.

“I always thought that playing against Cornwall, especially away from home, was really difficult as an opposing player,” O’Callaghan told cornwallrlfc.co.uk

“The Cornwall fans make for a really good atmosphere and I want to play for a club that is well-supported and gets good crowds.

“As a player from the south, who has always played for expansion clubs, I Know exactly what Cornwall are trying to achieve and they have made real progress in two seasons.

“I’ve been around this division for a number of years and feel like I know the game and have a decent rugby league brain. I want the fans to know that I will work hard, tackle high and implement any game plan that I’m asked to.”

Meanwhile, Cornwall RLFC head coach Mike Abbottt, added: “The versatility of Liam is something that makes him a real asset to a squad at this level.

“We know that over the course of a season, we will get injuries and suspensions. So to have someone who can play in more than one position, to a very high standard for this level of football, will be hugely important for us moving forward.”
