Cornwall RLFC are delighted to announce the signing of much sought after Australian half-back Cameron Brown for the 2023 Betfred League 1 season.

The 22-year-old cut his formative rugby league teeth with Gold Coast based junior side Helensvale Hornets.

From there Brown joined the Burleigh Bears, who ply their trade in the Queensland Cup, the region’s top rugby league competition. He gained both senior and representative honours whilst with the Pizzey Park outfit.

Brown, who has dual English and Australian citizenship with his father born on these shores, flew into this country over the weekend and arrived in the Duchy last night (Sunday).

“I’m excited because I have always wanted to come over to the UK and play,” Brown told “I know it will be a different but great experience and I can’t wait to rip in with the boys and this league.

“I am keen to show everyone what I am capable of and I hope that I can bring value and spark to the team. I love playing eyes-up footy, almost off the cuff at times, but that is the best way of having a good crack of playing and gaining success in this sport.

“I know that the lads have been training for a few months now but I have been ticking over myself back in Australia both in the gym and just doing some bits and pieces with a ball. I perhaps need a couple of games to blow the cobwebs out the way, but if the coach hands me the number six jumper, then I know I will be ready to play.

“I’m excited to play alongside someone like Adam Rusling as I’ve seen a couple of clips of him and he looks like a really good player. I am looking forward to building a good combination with him although perhaps getting used to the weather is the first thing I need to do.

“When I Ieft Australia it was thirty-five degrees and now I get to England it is something like five and I have never felt cold like it. Seriously, though, I will adapt and as I said, I am itching to lace up my boots and start playing good footy with the boys.”

Meanwhile, Cornwall RLFC general manager John Beach, added: “We are thrilled to sign a player of Cameron’s undoubted talent and potential.

“It is great to finally get the deal over the line too as we first identified him as a player we were interested in over a year ago. We didn’t see Cameron in a Cornwall shirt last year but kept in touch with the player himself, his dad and his agent in an effort to make it happen.

“As a club, we are really pleased with how our recruitment has gone over the off-season. Like every club, there are always setbacks, but we see the signing of Cameron as one that has the potential to be hugely pivotal for our chances of success in 2023.”
