Cornwall RLFC Have Signed Local Three-Quarter Decarlo Trerise

February 18, 2022

Cornwall RLFC have signed local three-quarter Decarlo Trerise for the 2022 Betfred League One campaign.

The 27-year-old took part in our open player trial earlier this year and after impressing the Choughs’ coaching staff in attendance, was asked to further showcase his credentials in recent weeks.

Along with Jake Lloyd, who also inked terms with the club earlier this week, Trerise trained with Cornwall on an extended trial basis and his performances have resulted in the award of a playing contract for 2022.

Trerise, who was born in London but moved to the Duchy aged just two, has previously been a mainstay of the Cornish Rebels rugby league side – the developmental arm of Cornwall RLFC. He was also a member of the Cornwall county rugby league side who defeated their Devon counterparts to lift the Martin Roddy MBE Trophy in July 2021.

“I’m excited to play for a professional rugby league team and especially one that is starting in Cornwall,” Trerise told cornwallrlfc.co.uk. “When I joined the Cornish Rebels, a few years ago, this was always in the pipeline and now it’s happened, I’m ecstatic to be playing for Cornwall.

“I’ve always enjoyed the game of rugby but union has never really been a game to suit my playing style. I started playing league as a bit of fun originally and I found myself playing a game that I got along with.

“League is fun to play and I am definitely in love with rugby league and as proud Cornishman, to pull on the shirt for Cornwall’s newest venture, I am absolutely buzzing for it.

“Training is tough but all the lads get on really well. There isn’t one of the lads that I wouldn’t be happy to put a shirt on and play with. I want to put my body on the line and do the best for the team. Our coaching start have been great and they have been helping with pointers and tips to make you a better player.”

With Trerise’s capture continuing Cornwall RLFC’s busy week of recruitment, club general manager Gareth Reid added: “We are pleased to sign our latest Cornish player to the squad for the upcoming season.

“After impressing in our initial trial, Decarlo was invited to attend the start of our preseason and a chance to further prove himself and he has done so. We look forward to Decarlo developing his game under Neil Kelly’s guidance and representing Cornwall with pride.”
