Cornwall RLFC’s fixtures for inaugural campaign revealed

November 14, 2021

Excitement continues to build for Cornwall RLFC as the fixture list for their inaugural Betfred League One season has been revealed.

The Duchy outfit have received a bye in round one of the 2022 and will begin their campaign in round two when they  travel to North Wales Crusaders. Cornwall’s first ever competitive league match will take place on Saturday, April 2 at the Crusaders’ Zip World Stadium in Colwyn Bay.

Eight days later, Cornwall will make their bow in front of their own supporters at the Memorial Ground, Penryn, when the newly named Midlands Hurricanes, who until this month were known as the Coventry Bears, are the visitors. The game on Sunday, April 10, kicks off at 1.00pm.

“To say we are excited about the upcoming 2022 Betfred League 1 season is an understatement,” said Cornwall RLFC general manager Gareth Reid. “We very much look forward to weaving ourselves into the rich tapestry of the history of Rugby League.”

After 126 seasons the RFL professional ranks have moved into Cornwall for the first time and Reid added that the club can’t wait to perform in front of their own fans.

“There are already a number of games that we are earmarking on the calendar as crucial encounters that will determine a lot of the club’s success in our inaugural season,” he remarked. “But one thing is absolutely for sure that every single game will count. And, we will need the support of everyone within and beyond Cornwall to help drive the squad on. We can’t wait to host you all and hear the local fans show their pride for our home.”

Tickets for the opening home match of the season will go on sale soon – watch this space for details.
