Cornwall Name Squad for Swinton Clash

July 22, 2022

Head coach Neil Kelly has named his Cornwall RLFC squad for our latest Betfred League 1 clash at home to Swinton Lions.

The Lions will travel to the Duchy knowing that a win could take them second in the standings whilst for Cornwall, a maiden triumph on Cornish soil would increase the gap between Kelly’s side and bottom side West Wales Raiders.

After last weekend’s defeat at Keighley, hooker Sam Gilder, as expected, is ruled out after his concussion suffered against the league leaders. However, Kelly has moved swiftly to boost his hooking options as Cole Connolly joins the Choughs from National Conference League side Rochdale Mayfield for the rest of 2022.

Connolly will be vying with Nathan Conroy for the number nine shirt owing to Gilder and Jake Lloyd’s absence from the side owing to injury.

Conroy, who missed the Keighley loss, could also be in contention to play at half-back with Adam Rusling required by his parent club Hull Kingston Rovers.

Up front Josh Hartshorne has been named in the squad but remains doubtful due to a calf strain while Liam Whitton returns after a hamstring niggle ruled the 21-year-old out of the trip to Cougar Park.

Rugby union convert Brad Howe is also back in contention after being unavailable for the Choughs’ previous two matches.
