Cornwall Name Squad For Rochdale Clash

August 12, 2022

Cornwall RLFC head coach Neil Kelly has named his 21-man squad for Sunday’s Betfred League 1 round 19 clash at Rochdale Hornets.

Last time out, Cornwall performed admirably in falling to a 36-12 home reverse at the hands of promotion chasing North Wales Crusaders.

The Hornets, under new coach Gary Thornton in his first game after replacing Matt Calland, were also gallant in defeat as they were edged out 26-20 by fellow play-off contenders Doncaster.

When the two sides met at the Memorial Ground back in May, Rochdale ran out 50-0 winners with former Man of Steel winner Rangi Chase pulling the strings in a comfortable away win. However, Chase is suspended for Sunday’s return fixture along with Gavin Bennion and Zac Baker.

For Cornwall, Liam Whitton missed out with an ankle knock whilst Christopher Chard and Matty Turton drop out of the matchday squad altogether after they both featured in round 18.

Bradford winger Jayden Myers, on loan to Cornwall from the Odsal outfit, returns whilst his fellow Bulls team mate Coby Nichol is also included after joining Cornwall on loan this week.

Nichol has previously featured in away matches at both Doncaster and Oldham earlier in the season for Kelly’s side.

And finally, the Choughs were able to boost their ranks further this week with the signing of free agent Louis Singleton. If selected, the 30-year-old will play against Rochdale, the team he started the season with.
