Cornwall Name Squad For Rochdale Clash

August 25, 2023

Cornwall RLFC head coach Mike Abbott has named his 21-man squad for Sunday’s Betfred League 1 clash against Rochdale Hornets.

The home match will see the curtain come down on Cornwall’s second professional campaign which has seen Mike Abbott’s troops pick up four victories so far.

The side’s faint play-off ambitions were ended last time out at Doncaster while for Rochdale, defeat at home to Oldham in round 21 has meant their place in the end of season lottery for promotion, hangs by a thread.

Rochdale were due to play a rearranged round 17 match against London Skolars on Wednesday evening, but that game was called off as the capital outfit were unable to raise a side. The Hornets were handed a 48-0 win which drew them level with sixth placed North Wales Crusaders on twelve points.

However, the Welsh side have a superior points difference and play London on the final day. Rochdale will be hoping that the Skolars pull off an unlikely victory and they defeat Cornwall.

For the hosts on Sunday, they will be without Sean Croston (groin) but Tom Ashton (ankle) is named in the 21.

Mackenzie Scurr drops out and is replaced by Callum Abbott who has recovered from illness. There is also a place in the Cornwall squad for Reece Boase, who has been sidelined with an ankle problem in recent weeks.

Harry Boots has recovered from a knee problem picked up in the victory over North Wales Crusaders on July 30.
