Boardman’s Loan Deal Extended

May 23, 2024

Cornwall RLFC are delighted to announce that AJ Boardman’s loan spell at the Memorial Ground has been extended for another two weeks.

The 34-year-old joined the Choughs for an initial 14-day period from Befted League 1 rivals Rochdale Hornets.

Boardman made his Cornwall bow in the side’s dramatic 24-22 win over Midlands Hurricanes on May 12, off the interchange bench.

Playing against one of his former clubs, Boardman was instrumental in Cornwall’s late surge to victory thanks to tries from David Weetman and Cameron Brown.

And in Cornwall’s last game at home to Oldham, Boardman was nominated for the Supporters’ Player of the Match after he once again caught the eye.

“AJ has been brilliant for us in the past two games,” head coach Mike Abbott told cornwallrlfc.co.uk.

“He gives us options across the pack and against Oldham, due to the injuries we suffered, he ran at centre in the second half.

“We are quite a young side and a young squad in general so to have someone like AJ around the place is a massive positive for me as a coach and the rest of the boys too.

“Once again, I will give a mention to Gary (Thornton, Rochdale Hornets head coach) for his assistance in letting AJ remain with Cornwall with another two weeks.

“AJ has told me how he is itching for more when we play Hunslet at the weekend and then at home to Newcastle.”
