Away Days – Rochdale Hornets
August 12, 2022
Cornwall RLFC are back on the road this coming weekend with Spotland, the home of Rochdale Hornets, the Choughs’ destination for their round 19 Betfred League 1 clash.
Spotland, or the Crown Oil Arena as it is known for sponsorship purposes, is the second biggest stadium in terms of capacity that Cornwall will visit in 2022. Only Doncaster’s Eco-Power Stadium is capable of holding more spectators.
Ironically, both Spotland and Doncaster’s home venues host professional football clubs too. The stadiums have capacities of 10,000 and more meaning they are more than adequate to host League 1 action.
Unlike the Eco-Power, Spotland is not all enclosed and for Cornwall’s visit on Sunday, just half of the main stand will be open.
Spotland hosted one match at the 2013 Rugby League World Cup when Fiji faced off against Ireland in front of nearly 9,000 fans. The ground was chosen to host a warm-up match between England and Fiji before this year’s World Cup. However, owing to a dispute with Rochdale AFC, the match has now been moved to the AJ Bell Stadium, home of Super League side Salford Red Devils.
The main stand is fully covered although supporting pillars mean that the view will not be totally unobstructed.
Seating is unallocated meaning that spectators are able to chose where they watch the action unfold on a first come, first served basis.
Rochdale advise that the turnstile entry number will be displayed on any advance tickets which are sent via email. They can either be scanned from a mobile device or printed and a hard copy presented.
Rochdale advise that the main club car park is available to use on matchday at a price of £4 per car. Supporters are advised that there are restrictions on side streets around the ground. Enforcement officers are in operation on matchdays.
Main stand – unreserved seating
