Keighley Cougars

Keighley Cougars’ Jack Miller – SWPix

Ground: Cougar Park (7,800)
Coach: Matt Foster
Captain: Ellis Robson
Last season: 13th Championship (relegated)

After blitzing the rest of the Betfred League 1 field in 2022, the Cougars’ return to the Championship only lasted for one term.

Initially, Keighley settled into their new surroundings well and even managed to topple local rivals Bradford Bulls at Cougar Park.

But the cracks started to appear in May when popular head coach Rhys Lovegrove was shown the door. It looked like Keighley would survive going into the final rounds of the regular season, but a late run of form from Swinton saw the Lions survive.

For this season, 2024, Keighley are fancied to go well again and much will rest on the shoulders of influential half-back Jack Miller, who rejoins the club after a spell with Newcastle Thunder.

Quick Keighley Facts

  • Much of the modern-day glitz and glam associated with rugby league on these shores is credited to Keighley who started this trend – nicknamed Cougarmania – in the mid 1990s.
  • Prolific Keighley winger Nick Pinkney was part of the England squad at the 1995 Rugby League World Cup.
