Hunslet

Ground: South Leeds Stadium (4,000)
Head Coach: Alan Kilshaw
Captain: Steve Crossley
Season 2023 Finish: 7th League 1

Hunslet will be hoping that the hangover of not finishing in the play-offs last term doesn’t linger at the South Leeds Stadium into this new campaign.

Favourites to finish sixth as the end of the season approached, Hunslet imploded and lost six consecutive games to finish seventh.

Still with a chance of featuring in the end of season lottery, Hunslet had to defeat nearest rivals Oldham on the final day but the Roughyeds prevailed 30-18 at Whitebank.

In typical Alan Kilshaw style, the Hunslet chief has been busy in the transfer market with a number of players leaving the Parksiders and an equal amount of incomings too.

Arguably the most eye-catching signing across all of League 1 was former Bradford captain Steve Crossley joining Hunslet while Kilsham has also added former Choughs Nathan Conroy and Joe Burton.

The play-offs will be the minimum aim for the South Leeds faithful and if Kilsham can get his side to gel quickly, they could be serious contenders for promotion too.

Quick Hunslet Facts:

  • The old incarnation of the hunslet club, which was in existence until 1973, was the first winner of rugby league’s Four Cups. In 1907-08, Captained by the legendary Albert Goldthorpe, Hunslet were crowned Division One, Challenge Cup, County League and County Cup (Yorkshire) winners.

  • In 1999, Hunslet defeated Dewsbury to win the Northern Ford Premiership but were denied promotion to Super League.
