Hunslet

Hunslet’s Josh Jordan-Roberts – SWPix

Ground: South Leeds Stadium (4,000)
Head coach: Dean Muir
Captain: Billy Gaylor
Season 2023 Finish: 2nd League 1

Hunslet finished second in the table last year after the regular rounds, but the Parksiders endured a disappointing play-off campaign.

In the side’s first play-off match, they were defeated on home soil by eventual winners Doncaster.

This gave Hunslet a second bite of the cherry, but they were surprisingly turned over, again at the South Leeds Stadium, with North Wales Crusaders their eventual conquerers.

This saw Alan Kilshaw’s time in the Parksiders’ hot seat end with two defeats before he left to join Championship side Swinton Lions.

Kilshaw’s replacement for 2024 is Dean Muir and he has seen a steady overhaul of Hunslet’s playing personnel.

Although influential hooker Sam Hallas has departed, his namesake Harvey, arguably the competition’s stand out prop forward, has been retained by Muir.

Quick Hunslet Facts:

  • The old incarnation of the Hunslet club, which was in existence until 1973, was the first winner of rugby league’s Four Cups. In 1907-08, captained by the legendary Albert Goldthorpe, Hunslet were crowned Division One, Challenge Cup, County League and County Cup (Yorkshire) winners.
  • In 1999, Hunslet defeated Dewsbury to win the Northern Ford Premiership but were denied promotion to Super League.
